Jennifer Garner has brought a lot of iconic roles to life with films like 13 Going On 30, Juno, and The Adam Project. The actress also played the highly trained assassin, Elektra in Daredevil (2003). Although the Mark Steven Johnson-directed film wasn’t quite well received by the audience, it did open the doors for Jennifer Garner to star in her own spin-off film, Elektra.

Now, as Jennifer Garner was going through one role after the other, she was also simultaneously leaving behind a trail of unforgettable costumes. I am sure everyone remembers the iconic multicolored dress from 13 Going on 30! Similarly, her badass outfit with those black leather pants in Daredevil was quite talked about. However, the outfit came with its own problems.

Jennifer Garner was on the Brink of a Wardrobe Malfunction

In an interview with Glamour, Jennifer Garner was taking a stroll down memory lane, breaking down some of her most iconic looks. From 13 Going on 30 to The Last Thing He Told Me, Garner dived deep into her clothes from her beloved projects.

Stumbling upon the topic of Daredevil, Garner stated that she had to put on “so many chicken cutlet fake b**bs.” She added that during the entirety of the shoot, she was in danger of risking a horrible wardrobe malfunction.

“I had so many chicken cutlet fake b**bs in to make Elektra’s b**bs. I think there were like three on each side of different sizes, and everything was pushed up and out. I was just this close to a wardrobe malfunction at all times. There’s not enough tape in the world to make this stuff safe.”

We cannot imagine how uncomfortable Garner must be! Speaking of discomfort, Garner stated that her leather pants were so tight that she had to be sewn in and sewn out of them if she wanted to take a bathroom break. This caused her to try and keep mother nature’s call on hold for as long as she could.

“I had to be cut out of and sewn into the leather pants every time I had to pee and that was like a 45 minute undertaking, so I definitely held it.”

Daredevil received mixed reviews from fans as well as critics despite making $179 million on a budget of $78 million. It was also the film that united Garner with Ben Affleck where the two fell in love. The pair tied the knot in 2005, however, they officially separated in 2018.

Jennifer Garner was Involved in Deciding Elektra’s Outfit

While Garner had to go through “endless fittings” to find the perfect outfit for Elektra, she did get a say in what she wanted the costume to be like. She stated that costume designer James Acheson and she would get together every Saturday to figure it out, adding that she was super involved in the fittings.

“The costume designer James Acheson would see me every Saturday, I would put the wig on, I would go to his studio and I had worked all night on Alias, the night before and so I would be almost weaving, I was so tired and he would just build Elektra’s look on me bit by bit by bit. I was so involved with the fittings that I was able to advocate for myself, what I was going to need to be able to move.”

Despite the hardships, Garner’s spin-off film, Elektra, failed to impress. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of a measly 11%, the film made a domestic total of $24 million at the box office. This was the lowest a Marvel film made since Howard the Duck. While critics complimented Garner for her portrayal, they blamed the script for not bringing the character to justice.

You can stream Daredevil on HBO Max and Elektra is available to rent/buy on Prime Video.
