Emma Watson is one of the most well-known and talented actresses in Hollywood. Despite starring in many massively successful projects throughout her career, with Beauty and the Beast, Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Little Women being excellent examples, her most well-recognized work has to be the Harry Potter franchise. Starring as Hermione Granger, she created one of the most beloved and iconic characters in cinema history.

Being one of the main characters in the franchise, it is quite interesting to find out that Watson almost quit the franchise after the fame and attention that came with this role started to get to her. It would also seem that only one of her co-stars understood what she was going through.

Emma Watson Almost Quit The Harry Potter Franchise

It has become quite common for stars who have been part of a franchise or a long-running series, to want to suddenly quit mid-way for some reason or the other, be it because they want to explore other options, or they simply do not like somethings that come with the role. It would seem that Emma Watson almost became one of these celebrities, so much so that director David Yates, was warned that the actress may not want to come back for another Harry Potter film, considering leaving altogether.

“I can see that at times, I was lonely.” she confessed later on in her life.

The reason for this, as revealed by Yates, was the fact that Watson’s schooling took priority over everything else for her, and she was not sure if she was willing to give that up for the sake of the franchise. The fame that came with this role added to this, as it was something that Watson found difficult to get used to. Along with this, Watson also confessed to feeling quite alone while working on these films.

Tom Felton Understood Emma Watson’s Struggles

Emma Watson confessed years later that she did feel very lonely at times while working on these films. It would seem, however, that this did not go unnoticed as her co-star and very close friend, Tom Felton, who played the character of Draco Malfoy, understood how she was feeling at the time. During an interview, the actor mentioned that many forget how much pressure was on the young actress at that time and how gracefully she handled it.

“People definitely forget what she took on and how gracefully she did it. Dan and Rupert, they had each other. I had my cronies, whereas Emma was not only younger, she was by herself.” he said.

Going on, Felton added that while Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint had each other to confide in and he had his on-screen ‘cronies’, Watson did not have anyone she could rely on while working on the projects. To add to this, not only was she all by herself, but the actress was also younger than the rest of them, making it all the worse for her.
