Emma Watson’s Harry Potter franchise has come a long way since the first movie came out. Every character had an individual personality that helped them stand out in an incredible manner. Each character became memorable in their own unique manner. Whether it was Hagrid or Professor Quirrel, every character stood out wonderfully. One such character was Lucius Malfoy.

Father of Draco Malfoy and a man who was prestigious with his family name, Lucius Malfoy was incredibly played by Jason Isaacs. The actor put his very best in the role and managed to make him iconic in his own cunning way. This even led him to add his own features to the character which was previously not part of the film.

Emma Watson’s Harry Potter Series Had Jason Isaacs Want To Make Changes To Lucius Malfoy

The original idea of Lucius Malfoy was much different from what the fans were able to see on the screen. The way he was supposed to look for the franchise did not sit well with Jason Isaacs and he was immediately keen on changing that. Initially, the look that his character was supposed to have included a pinstripe suit and short salt-and-pepper hair.

“I was slightly horrified. He was a racist, a eugenicist. There’s no way he would cut his hair like a Muggle, or dress like a Muggle.”

Isaacs was completely against the idea and pointed to Chris Columbus about how as someone who is prideful of his bloodline and heritage, that look would be his complete opposite. It was instead necessary to remember that as someone who is proud of how he is a pureblood wizard, he could have a different look. So he was then made to wear robes and cloaks with long white flowing hair. Moreover, the idea of Lucius Malfoy having a cane was also Jason Isaac’s.

Jason Isaac Bended Lucius Malfoy’s Accent

Jason Isaac did not stop just with his hair and clothes. He went on to explain that his accent was also altered. Nobody on set was quite fond of it and that included Emma Watson. However, one person who thought otherwise was Daniel Radcliffe. That was enough to have Isaac go forward with the accent and make it iconic.

Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy

“I combined him with a teacher I thought was patronizing and sadistic when I was in drama school. To me what [the accent] smacks of is a sense of entitlement. I just wanted to find a voice that made him drip with the millennia that his family had been in power — complete disdain and contempt for anybody and everything else.”

He referred to it as a voice that would ring in the years in the worst possible manner. He wanted his voice to hurt in a way that the audience would understand Lucius Malfoy’s cunning nature and just how prideful of a man he really is.
