Despite cutting ties with acting for a while. this hasn’t hindered Emma Watson’s net worth, thanks to the big load of money she took home for her work in the Harry Potter movies. Throughout its span of eight movies, the Harry Potter franchise grossed a whopping $7.7 billion, resulting in the lead stars earning a handsome paycheck, which involved Watson earning $70 Million.
While $70 million for 8 movies seems like a pretty prominent deal, in the later years, the actor’s net worth would witness another healthy spike, thanks to the success of 2017’s Disney remake.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)
Emma Watson Took Home a Fortune for the Disney Remake
Although Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 remains the biggest success of her career, grossing around $1.34 billion, the 2017 Disney remake also didn’t fall short. Cashing on the original’s greatness, 2017’s Beauty and the Beast made a whopping $1.26 billion at the box office, becoming the second movie in her filmography to cross the $1 billion threshold.
The enormous success of the movie resulted in a handsome addition to Emma Watson’s net worth. Per The Hollywood Reporter, despite having a base salary of $3 million, she took home $15 million, thanks to the bonuses following the movie’s successful run at the box office,
Emma Watson Deeply Resonated With the Disney Princess
Originally offered the role of Mia in Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, which earned more than a dozen nominations at the Oscars, Emma Watson rejected the film in favor of the remake of the Disney classic. Even though Emma Stone took an Oscar home for Best Actress for the film, Emma Watson doesn’t regret her decision to star in Beauty and the Beast, as the character of Belle deeply resonated with her. However, this wasn’t the lone Disney role she was offered, as she previously turned down the role of Cinderella. Speaking to Grazia, Watson explained,
“I didn’t know they were going to make Beauty And The Beast at the time I turned down Cinderella.” She continued: “But when they offered me Belle, I just felt the character resonated with me so much more than Cinderella did. She remains curious, compassionate and open-minded. And that’s the kind of woman I would want to embody as a role model, given the choice.”
Emma Watson as Belle
While Cinderella, which starred Lily James at the forefront, scored slightly higher than Beauty and the Beast among critics, it didn’t come close to the Watson-led movie’s dominance at the box office.
