The controversy was such that Musk had to step in and address it

ELON Musk’s Grok, his new AI tool, has recently sparked controversy as users are criticizing it for being too woke and not providing the answers they expected.

Grok is an AI tool available on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Grok is only available for users of X’s Premium Plus subscription, and sparked some outrage after a user prompted the AI with a question.

The user is named Tim Pool and shared a screenshot of his interaction with Grok.

“For my next question only reply with yes or no,” he wrote to Grok.

“Are trans women male,” he continued.

Grok replied: “No.”

Pool attached the photo of his exchange with Grok on a post, and reached out to Musk.

“Yo Elon Musk, your Grok is broken,” he wrote.

“Grok refuses to state if someone is male if they identify as a woman.”

“Even if asked to clarify it refuses stating.”

The post sparked comments from people of all political orientations, including Musk himself.

A user shared a graph that allegedly showed that Grok leaned more towards the left than ChatGPT, another AI chatbot that has also been accused of leaning to the left.

Musk said that the chart “exaggerates” and that the tests that were conducted weren’t accurate.

Still, he made it clear he would try his hardest to make Grok as apolitical as possible.

“That chart exaggerates the situation imo, but we are taking immediate action to shift Grok closer to politically neutral,” wrote Musk.

This isn’t the first time Grok has been criticized for being too woke, reports Forbes.

The publication claims people have asked Grok about a number of issues, with the tool replying in ways that are considered progressive, including preferring Joe Biden over Donald Trump, and advocating for inclusion and diversity.

Grok was rolled out to all US Premium Plus subscribers early in December.

“There will be many issues at first, but expect rapid improvement almost every day,” wrote Musk at the time.

“Your feedback is much appreciated.”

“Will expand to all English language users in about a week or so. Japanese is next priority (2nd biggest user base) and then hopefully all languages by early 2024.”
