Tesla’s project finally broke ground after many years.

Nearly six years after Elon Musk first announced plans to build a Supercharger station, Tesla has finally broken ground on the project.

“I will build a restaurant at one of the new Supercharger stations in LA,” Musk wrote on social media in 2018.

Last year, Tesla submitted plans to the city of Los Angeles for a charging station equipped with a movie theater and restaurant. According to Bloomberg, the electric car manufacturer will build a luxury supercharging station at 7001 West Santa Monica Boulevard.

Starting in September, Tesla officially embarked on the project. Few details about the project were revealed after the plan was approved by the city.

“The restaurant of the future in LA will be ready by the end of the year,” Musk wrote on X.

It is known that Tesla is very serious and trying to realize the restaurant project at Supercharger. Just a few months after Musk’s announcement in 2018, Tesla applied for a permit to build a “Supercharger restaurant and vehicle charging station” at a location in Santa Monica.

According to Bloomberg, Tesla plans to build 28 charging stations at Supercharger and 2 movie theaters that can accommodate more than 200 people. Customers coming to refuel can also order food and receive it right in the car. Movies with a duration equivalent to the time it takes to charge a Tesla will be selected for screening.

Tesla’s plan to upgrade its car charging stations shows one of the company’s biggest advantages in the electric vehicle field. The company is also planning to expand its exclusive fast charging network to some car owners who do not own Tesla.

According to BI, the company has spent more than a decade building more than 20,000 super fast chargers in North America, thereby becoming the automaker with the largest fast charger network in the region. Best of all, superchargers are considered by many drivers to be more reliable and easier to use than other charging networks.

Musk’s plan shows Tesla’s efforts to turn electric vehicle chargers into a destination that directly competes with gas stations, thereby solving the problem of consumers hesitating to buy electric vehicles. To date, some Tesla charging stations have been equipped with waiting rooms and vending machines.

The fact that an electric car manufacturer like Tesla ventures into opening a restaurant sounds very strange but is highly appreciated by the media. Charging an electric vehicle takes longer than a gasoline vehicle, and while waiting to refuel, drivers need space to relax, enjoy a meal or watch a movie.

It is known that Tesla’s proprietary charging system, called the North American Charging Standard (NACS), is not monitored by any independent organization. The fact that GM and Ford recently ‘joined hands’ to cooperate with Tesla to help customers refuel right at the rival company’s charging points has indirectly predicted the dominance of the Tesla charging system.

“For us, it was important to ensure that charging station access was easy,” said Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe.

Currently, the US electric vehicle industry is now focusing on developing fast charging points to help drivers relieve worries about being stuck on the road. An S&P Global report in January suggested that the US charging system would not be enough to serve the rapidly growing electric vehicle industry. The number of charging points in the US accordingly needs to increase 4 times in the period 2022-2025 to meet demand.
