Daniel Radcliffe dedicated about a decade of his life to the Harry Potter franchise and needless to say, the actor grew more and more invested with each passing year. However, Daniel Radcliffe had to wait a long time before he got to know how the story ends in J.K. Rowling’s books. This is because when he was cast as The Boy Who Lived only four books had been released.

When the seventh and the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was finally released, Daniel Radcliffe was a bit behind schedule. As is it was an early birthday gift, the book was released two days before his birthday. And since the actor already had plans made, he didn’t get to read the book on time. Thus, Daniel Radcliffe had to go around begging people to not spoil the ending for him.

In an interview with Collider, Daniel Radcliffe was asked about his emotions after reading J.K. Rowling’s seventh Harry Potter book as well as the adorable epilogue where the golden trio is all grown up. Radcliffe replied stating that he was initially too busy to spare some time for the book and had to go around begging people to not tell him the grand finale.

“Yeah, I obviously loved the 7th book kind of as much as everybody else did. I was reading actually at a cricket match because it came out 2 days before my 18th birthday. And I was going to a match for my birthday. So I was going ‘round for 2 days without having read it where everybody else was reading it. And so it was a 2-day-long struggle to beg not get told the ending. And I did actually manage to do that.”

It looks like there isn’t a soul in the world who is not afraid of spoilers. As for how much he loved the book, Radcliffe called it “emotional” and “moving.” He even went into detail about how the epilogue was the perfect end to the novel series.

“I remember finishing it on the plane and just becoming very emotional. I found it’s a very moving book. The epilogue was something that I liked. I know not everybody did at all, but it was actually something I didn’t have a problem with. And it’s tying together all those loose ends.

Because the thing is, what people don’t realize about the epilogue is I think that if Jo Rowling hadn’t written that epilogue can you imagine being her for the rest of her life and having to cope with questions about what did Harry go on to do? What did…? She has to give something to just I think to shut people up aside from everything else, you know, to give some conclusion.”

After years and years of working on the set of Harry Potter, it was soon going to be the time to say goodbye. When asked how he felt about the journey coming to an end, Radcliffe replied that he was trying not to think too much of it.

“I’m not thinking about it that much at the moment. It’s very occasionally I’m being sort of my memories being kind of jogged and I’m suddenly thinking oh God I am only here for another 3 months, you know? 3 or 4 months. And so that’s very odd and it will be very upsetting when it does come to an end because I’ve spent so much time here and made some fantastic friends who I hope will stay with me for the rest of my life. And so yeah, it’ll be very sad but equally it is an exciting time.”

Radcliffe’s emotions were absolutely valid as he quite literally grew up on the set of Harry Potter along with Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. When the time came, it couldn’t have been easy for the golden trio to say goodbye to each other. The three weren’t even able to control their tears as they hugged each other on the last day of filming. The Harry Potter team was no less than a family.
