Kanye West claimed that it was God who empowered him to interrupt Taylor Swift at the MTV VMAs in 2009.

The moment Kanye stepped on stage to take the limelight from Swift has gone down in music award show infamy.

The rapper, 43, was very unhappy with the decision to give the VMA for Best Video to Swift instead of his pal Beyonce.

Beyonce had released ‘Single Ladies’ that year and Kanye exclaimed that the video for the hit song was one of the best of all time.

Now he claims that he would not have been able to reach the stage that night if God hadn’t planned for him to be so close.

Kanye opened up about the incident while speaking to Nick Cannon on his Cannon’s Class podcast.

He said: ‘Right now, God is giving me the information.

‘If God ain’t want me to run on stage and say Beyoncé had the best video, he wouldn’t have sat me in the front row.

‘I would’ve been sitting in the back. It wouldn’t have made it so ridiculous of an idea because I had never heard of this person before, and ‘Single Ladies’ is, like, one of the greatest videos of all time.’

He went on to say that the entire thing was a set-up as he revealed that he had been drinking before the incident.

He said: ‘I was only drinking Hennessy because I didn’t want to go to the awards show because it was a set-up.’
