The LSU Tigers were in action again on Monday night as they faced the Texas Southern Tigers at home. With Angel Reese missing out yet again, the defending champions were looking to put on a dominant display at home. Head coach Kim Mulkey was hopeful that her team could repeat their performance from the last game in the absence of their Most Outstanding Player–Angel Reese.

Consequently, her team stepped up and delivered a thumping 106-47 victory over the Southern Tigers. The Lady Tigers proved yet again that don’t rely on a single player for their team’s overall success.

LSU decimates Texas Southern at home

LSU started the game in a commanding fashion, taking the early lead in the first quarter. The talented Hailey Van Lith matched Mulkey’s expectations as she led the scoring chart for the Tigers. The top performer from the last game, Flau’jae Johnson, provided Van Lith with much-needed support. The Lady Tigers tightened their grip in the second half, extending their lead on the visitors. The trio of Hailey Van Lith, Flau’jae Johnson, and Aneesah Morrow put on a scintillating show in front of the home crowd. Following this, all three of them entered double digits by the end of the second quarter. As a result, the Tigers were sitting comfortably on 49-18 at half-time.

The 2022 WBCA Freshman of the Year picked up the pace in the third quarter by decimating the Southern Tigers’ defense. Combining with Johnson, the duo put on 13 points at a rapid pace. Moreover, the guarding knights of the LSU, Van Lith and Mikaylah Williams had 14 points each to their name. The Texas Southern Tigers trailed the NCAA champions with a massive gap of 54 points by the end of the third quarter. Following this, the Tigers showed no mercy in the fourth quarter as they continued to annihilate their opponent, ending the game with an unbelievable 106-47 scoreline. The freshman center Aalyah Del Rosario also joined the party ending her night with 14 points and 5 rebounds.

The 2020 Washington Ms. Basketball gave a tremendous exhibition in front of a jam-packed Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The talented No.11 was in total control throughout the game and showed complete composure in the absence of Reese. The McDonald’s All-American scored 16 points and 2 rebounds in her 25 minutes on the court. In addition to this, she also assisted 5 times and led her team to a commanding victory.

The LSU Tigers are advancing in an authoritative manner after their season opener disappointment. However, the absence of the Bayou Barbie from the squad is a concern for the fans. Nonetheless, several others are stepping up and delivering for the defending champions. Come what may, fans will be hoping that LSU can keep up this performance in the upcoming games.
