Anthony Davis dropped a game-high 40 points and corralled 13 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Lakers to victory. James provided just 16 points in the loss, his lowest scoring output on a Christmas Day game in 18 tries.

The loss dropped Los Angeles to 16–15 on the year. The Lakers sit in ninth place in the Western Conference, just a half-game ahead of the No. 10 Golden State Warriors. They’re 7.5 games behind the conference-leading Minnesota Timberwolves, though James seems to be concerned that the current roster may not currently have what it takes to make up that ground.

On Monday afternoon, the Los Angeles Lakers will host the Boston Celtics in California.

For the game, LeBron James is listed as questionable on the injury report.

James will turn 39 later this month but is still among the ten best players in the league and has averages of 25.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest while shooting 54.4% from the field and 41.2% from the three-point range in 27 games.

The Lakers are 16-14 in their first 30 games, which has them as the ninth seed in the Western Conference.

Most recently, the Lakers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder by a score of 129-120, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

In 37 minutes of playing time, James had 40 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two blocks while shooting 13/20 from the field and 5/5 from the three-point range.

Meanwhile, the Celtics are the first seed in the Eastern Conference with a 22-6 record in their first 28 games.

They are 8-2 over their last ten games and in the middle of a two-game winning streak.

At home, the Celtics have gone 14-0, while they are 8-6 in the 14 games that they have played on the road away from Boston, Massachusetts.
