The race between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese has been highly contentious. But to Nick Wright, he has a clear winner.
Debates on who is the best between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese can be entertaining. But when it’s time to decide between the two for individual awards, Nick Wright believes there can only be one clear winner.
Regardless of their respective team’s performances, Clark and Reese have been highly successful throughout their rookie seasons.
Clark is averaging 18.7 points, 8.4 assists and 5.6 rebounds on 42.3% shooting from the field and 34.1% from beyond the arc. She already has 12 double-doubles and one triple-double to start her career, making way for her incredible potential as a WNBA superstar.
Reese has made a name for herself as a double-double threat. With 25 double-doubles and counting this season, she is averaging 13.3 points and 13.1 rebounds per game, breaking WNBA records with her remarkable rebounding displays.
While WNBA fans are left figuring out who will come out victorious in the sweepstakes for Rookie of the Year, Nick Wright has locked in his pick for the award.
While he gives credit to Reese for having a great rookie season, the immense talent Clark displays on the court has been too much for Wright to ignore.
“Nobody with a straight face can say there is a real debate about who the most impactful or best rookie in women’s basketball has been this year. It’s Caitlin Clark.
“Angel’s rebounding is spectacular. I think some people go too far with it. They’re like, ‘oh, Angel Reese, she’s just rebounding her own misses.’ That’s not true. ‘Oh, she doesn’t have a real impact. Because look at the team’s record.’ That’s not true. That team, when she’s off the court, gets boat raced. When she’s on the court, they play people even. But Caitlin Clark’s arguably already one of the five best players in the league, inarguably one of the eight best players in the league.”
Clark and the Fever (17-16) will host the Los Angeles Sparks on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. ET. Another win will put Indiana even closer to a playoff berth.
As for Reese and the Sky (11-20), they will need all the wins they can get as they take on the Las Vegas Aces tonight at 10 p.m. ET.
