Fans think BBC employee is getting sacked after graphic shown following Cristiano Ronaldo penalty

Ronaldo missed a crucial penalty.

BBC Sport aimed a brutal dig at Cristiano Ronaldo after he missed a penalty at Euro 2024.

On Monday night Portugal squeezed into the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 on penalties after drawing 0-0 with Slovenia.

Goalkeeper Diogo Costa was the man of the moment, saving three penalties while Portugal scored all three of their attempts.

However, Portugal could have won the game in extra-time had Cristiano Ronaldo converted a penalty.

Portugal were awarded spot-kick when Diogo Jota was felled inside the box, but five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo saw his effort saved by Jan Oblak.

Ronaldo broke down in tears at half-time in extra-time, but the BBC showed him little sympathy.

During the analysis of the penalty, the graphic that appeared on screen was labelled ‘Misstiano Penaldo’.

Former England and Chelsea captain John Terry certainly wasn’t impressed.

He shared a photo of the BBC’s caption to Instagram, writing: “BBC this is a disgrace!”

One fan on X wrote: “Even the BBC are making slander names for Ronaldo ffs.”

Others commented, “They hate his guts so much,” and “This is nasty work.”

Another viewer replied: “It’s always been him against the world.”

Slovenia were left kicking themselves late in extra-time when Benjamin Sesko fluffed a one-on-one chance with minutes left to play.

Ronaldo gathered his composure to score his side’s first penalty in the shootout, before Bruno Fernandes converted and Bernardo Silva clinched the victory.

Portugal will know take on France in a mouth-watering quarter-final clash on Friday.
