Man Utd star Tyrell Malacia 'sent to hospital' after 'crash with suspected drunk driver'

Malacia was sent to hospital

Manchester United star Tyrell Malacia was reportedly hospitalised after a crash while driving his teammate’s car.

Malacia didn’t make a single Premier League appearance last season but has been back in pre-season training ahead of the new campaign.

The 24-year-old seemingly can’t catch a break with The Sun reporting that Malacia was crashed into by a suspected drink-driver which required him to be sent to hospital.

Malacia was being driven by one of his friends in Marcus Rashford’s Range Rover with Rashford following behind in his own car.

The Dutchman was hit by a black Mercedes C220 AMG on July 16 with the female driver being arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and taken to Macclesfield Hospital for evaluation.

Malacia and his friend were also sent to hospital and were given the all clear.

Both Malacia and Rashford both reported for training the next day.

SPORTbible have contacted Manchester United for comment.

Rashford, who was snubbed for Gareth Southgate’s England Euro 2024 squad, is now in the United States after flying with the majority of United’s squad to continue their pre-season preparations but Malacia remains in Manchester on an individual fitness programme.

The former Feyenoord defender underwent surgery on a knee meniscus injury last summer and Erik ten Hag recently admitted the full-back didn’t even train once last season.

He said: “Malacia hasn’t played a minute all season. He hasn’t even been on the training pitch once.

“We had recruited Malacia at the start of last season precisely as a back-up for Luke Shaw, those two options had to bring us a lot.

“The idea with Malacia was very good, and he just did well last season, but this season we never had him.

“This season is by far the hardest season I have ever had. Of everyone in the organisation, I have had the most contact with the club doctor this season. I think that says it all.”
