Trent Alexander-Arnold wants to stay with Liverpool this season despite interest from Real Madrid.

The Reds defender is out of contract next summer and the Spanish giants are apparently aiming to take advantage with a move this year. And despite the prospect of linking up with pal Jude Bellingham in Spain, it appears that Alexander-Arnold is ready to spurn a switch.

According to The Sun, the 25-year-old is committed to playing for Liverpool for the coming campaign. It would see him play under a new boss for the first time in his senior career after Arne Slot’s appointment.

Alexander-Arnold is excited to continue his career under the Dutchman. He has also gone as far as holding talks with Slot ahead of his return to action.

Liverpool are also keen to keep him for the foreseeable future by offering a new mega-money contract at Anfield. A source quoted by The Sun said: “Trent’s spoken to the new manager already. This took place before the Euros and they’re in touch now. They had a great conversation initially but the manager respected that he needed to focus on the tournament.

“Trent, like the rest of the squad, sees this as a new beginning and a fresh start and he is excited to get back to training to lay the foundations for a successful, new season. He is definitely committed for the season and a huge deal will be presented to him to stay beyond that.

“Everyone at the club has huge admiration for Trent and will be doing whatever it takes to keep him. He’s still got so much more to give.”

Amid Real Madrid’s interest, Alexander-Arnold has been left out of the Liverpool squad for their pre-season tour of the USA. But that call has nothing to do with anything transfer related.

The defender has been granted an extended holiday after helping England reach the final of Euro 2024. His break is expected to be three weeks, meaning he will likely not be seen until at least August.

That will see Alexander-Arnold miss this weekend’s friendly with Real Betis. He will also likely be absent for a clash with Premier League rivals Arsenal. The Reds then take on Manchester United and Sevilla ahead of their season opener against Ipswich at Portman Road next month.
