Manchester United have put Antony, Jadon Sancho and Harry Maguire all up for sale as Jim Ratcliffe attempts to solve even more problem positions.

The Red Devils have been one of the most active clubs in the Premier League this summer. They have signed Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and followed that up by beating Real Madrid to Lille starlet Leny Yoro.

And the big-money deals do not look like ending there either. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already promised widespread investment across Erik ten Hag ’s squad.

According to ESPN, the Dutchman is keen to sign another central midfielder, a further centre-back on top of Yoro and a right-back. Targets already appear to have been identified in those positions amid links to Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

But before that, sales need to happen for the Red Devils to top up their transfer funds. It is suggested that seven players could leave the club.

That includes former captain Harry Maguire, fellow defender Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Even two of Ten Hag’s signings in Antony and Christian Eriksen could bid farewell ahead of next month’s deadline.

A whole host of those players have already been linked with moves away. The Red Devils have rejected an opening bid from Fulham for McTominay, while Wan-Bissaka has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals West Ham.

Ten Hag has already emphasised the need for further additions at Old Trafford but underlined a requirement to trim down his squad first. He said: “Competition, yes, we need quality players. But you also need quantity because the season is even tougher than last season so we have to be ready for that.

“That [we need to sell] is also obvious but we want to have a strong squad, as strong as possible. I think at the moment the football leadership is very on the front foot. I think that’s what clubs like Manchester United should do.

“We’re very pleased we’ve done business – we have Yoro in, we have Zirkzee in – two high potential assets for the future. But when I say future, the future also starts today. The next game is always the most important, next season is always the most important.”

Man United have already bid farewell to a host of faces this summer. Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala and Alvaro Fernandez have all earned significant fees. Donny van de Beek was also allowed to join Girona in a cut-price deal, while Anthony Martial, Brandon Williams and Raphael Varane all left at the end of their contracts.
