Manchester United are willing to sanction a loan exit for Antony this summer – if interested clubs are willing to cover his wages.

The Brazilian winger, 24, was the Red Devils’ marquee signing back in the summer of 2022 after Erik ten Hag pushed the Old Trafford hierarchy to do a deal for a player he worked closely with at Ajax.

Two seasons on from said blockbuster transfer, Antony has failed to justify the £86million sum that United parted with in order to bring him to the Premier League – and the wide-man could now be set for a summer move.

ESPN have revealed that United are open to loaning Antony out this summer providing any potential suitors are willing to cover his £70,000 weekly wages in full.

While United are ready to green light a loan move, previous reports had indicated that the club’s top brass were ready to cut their losses on Antony amid plans to oversee a summer clear-out.

United have already made two summer signings in the form of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro but are eager to bolster the playing squad further. Their limited transfer budget, however, means that there has been an emphasis on raising additional funds through player trading and there are other options for Ten Hag on the wings.

But while Antony was not among the handful of young stars that United reportedly consider to be unsellable, it seems a loan move may be more likely for the winger.

Despite Antony’s continued poor form – and a dressing down from his manager last season – Ten Hag has continuously backed the winger to come good in a Manchester United shirt.

Speaking back in February, Ten Hag told reporters: “With Antony, I backed him for a long time. I know his abilities, great abilities, I know from the past he is unstoppable, no defender can stop him because he’s one of the quickest in the first 10 yards. When he plays that game I’m sure he will perform.

“He’s resilient, he’s a character and he will fight back. I back him and he now has to wait for his chance and, once he is there, he has to pick up.”
