Liverpool opened the doors to training on Sunday in Philadelphia and gave fans a glimpse of what the sessions are like under Arne Slot.

There’s no doubt that the Dutch manager is very hands on as he got involved in drills and constantly encouraged his new players throughout the session at Lincoln Financial Field, the home of the NFL franchise Philadelphia Eagles.

Slot could be heard shouting “patience” and “kill them with possession” as they went through different drills and small-sided games. Mo Salah pulled off some fine finishes in one of the training games to show he’s got his eye in already.

Johnny Heitinga was playing a very active role, too. The Dutchman and his high socks took some players for a passing session.

There was also a little extended work for Stefan Bajcetic with Heitinga. This could be a big season for the Spaniard after injury wrecked the last campaign for the talented teenager. It was the first of two sessions on Sunday. No day of rest for them.

Slot is slowly trying to change the style of play at Liverpool. The Dutchman is obsessed with coaching and his unrelenting focus on football has been noted by some of Liverpool’s staff.

Curtis Jones sat out the session as he recovers from a muscle issue picked up in the 1-0 win over Real Betis while Trey Nyoni was not involved as the club is managing the teenager’s workload as he is only just turned 17.

Liverpool Foundation are running a ‘Soccer clinic’ run for young people in the Philadelphia area on Monday. It is hosted by the Philadelphia Union Foundation.

The Philadelphia Union Foundation has been described as a “non-profit organisation of the Philadelphia Union, the local MLS team”. It was established in 2011 with “the goal of building safe spaces to play football in Philadelphia, strengthening youth programming, using soccer as a magnet to unite diverse communities, and growing the beautiful game in Chester, Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley.”

The organisation has since launched various initiatives, programs, and events to foster social impact and community development. LFC CEO Billy Hogan and former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia will take part in the event.

Liverpool’s travelling squad will be added to in the next 48 hours. Ryan Gravenberch and Ibrahima Konate are due to fly in to join up with the rest of the squad. The pair were at the Euros this summer with Holland and France but didn’t play a minute at the tournament in Germany.

So they’re cutting short their break to get out to the US. They won’t be involved against Arsenal on Wednesday but they could get some minutes against Manchester United on Saturday.

Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Alisson will return to training at the club’s Kirkby base when the team returns as they will not go to the US.
