BBC Sport presenter Emma Jones has revealed she’s recovering from an operation in an update on her health weeks after stepping away from work.

The 33-year-old has been with the BBC since 2021 and is known for her role on Match of the Day X, as well as several other broadcasting outlets. The popular host has been off fans’ screens since last month, though, after sharing that she had been hospitalised.

Taking to X in June, Jones said : “My health hasn’t been in a great place for quite some time now and I’ve spent more time in hospital than my own home. I’m taking time away from work/life to focus on getting back to full strength. I’ll be back soon.” However, the break has benefitted the presenter, who recently shared positive news about her recovery.

On Monday, Jones revealed on social media that she had undergone an operation and suggested a timeline for her return to work. “Hellooooo! Thank you for all of your lovely messages checking in about my health,” the broadcaster said.

“I had an op a month ago, I’m on high-dose steroids and trialling other medication and (touch wood) I’m feeling so much stronger. Life is very simple right now.

“I spend my days walking Teddy, painting and gardening (Nanna would be proud). I’m hoping to slowly return to work in a few weeks but after months of being stuck in bed in pain, I’m just grateful that I feel stronger each day. Life is beautiful.”

The presenter has more than 400k followers on Instagram and is particularly popular among Leeds United fans through her work with the club’s LUFC TV channel. Jones has previously confessed that she quickly fell in love with the Yorkshire club after taking the job at Elland Road.

“I am a Leeds fan now. You can’t go to Elland Road and not be,” Jones said in 2018. “I love the job, I genuinely love it. I feel privileged to be doing it as well. It’s the people you meet and the stories they tell and the passion they have.

“As soon as I started at LUTV, it was obvious why people have such a love for the club. I turned up and by week two I was screaming louder than anyone in the South Stand!”
