Mike Tyson has revealed the ‘best chin’ he faced across his 58 professional fights in boxing.
Boxing legend Mike Tyson has revealed which of his opponents had the ‘best chin’ across his illustrious career.
Tyson, who was also referred to as ‘Iron Mike’, is regarding as one of the most feared and dominant fighters throughout the history of boxing.
He made his professional debut in 1985 against Hector Mercedes and went on to win by a first round TKO, before becoming the youngest heavyweight champion of the world at the age of 20 just two years later.
Tyson won his first 19 fights – all by knockouts – with 12 of them coming in the first round.
However, he was quickly knocked back down to reality, following his 10th-round knockout defeat to underdog Buster Douglas at the age of 23.
Shortly after his first loss, which popped the bubble of his invincibility across the boxing world, Tyson was convicted of rape in 1992 – where he would go on to serve three years in prison before being released.
The boxing legend would return to the ring after this, winning his comeback fights against Peter McNeeley and Buster Mathis Jr. Across his return, he secured the WBC and WBA titles with wins over Frank Bruno and Bruce Seldon.
Tyson retired in 2005 after a total of 58 fights, winning 50 of these bouts with 44 knock-outs.
Reflecting on his 20-year career with The Ring Magazine, he was asked a series of quick fire questions during the interview and when queried about the best chin he faced, he said: “Jose Ribalta: I hit Jose Ribalta with everything, and he took everything and kept coming back for more.”

The two faced each other in 1986, three months before Tyson fought for the heavyweight title. Ribalta stood 6ft 6inches and had a 22-3-1 record at the time.
Tyson landed a total of 220 punches during the fight, before he was given the win with a tenth round stoppage – the latest KO win he recorded in his career.
The boxing legend now lives a quieter, more relaxed lifestyle in his post-fighting career, after entering the cannabis business following its legalisation in 2016.
He will face YouTube personality Jake Paul in an exhibition bout on July 20, 2024.
The event will be streamed exclusively on Netflix on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from the 80,000-seat capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas – home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
