Mike Tyson 'disrespected' by current world champion boxer as drug test claim made

Mike Tyson has been disrespected by Canelo Alvarez, according to Carl Froch who made a fascinating drug test claim about the pair of boxers.

Canelo is set to return to action on May 4 when he takes on Jaime Munguia, who enters the biggest fight of his career having never lost a professional fight.

But his decision to face Munguia (43-0) frustrated Tyson, who accused the super-middleweight king of ducking David Benavidez.

On the Mexican superstar’s decision to face countryman Munguia over the WBC interim champion Benavidez, Tyson said: “Do you not respect the legacy of the great Mexican champions who faced the best regardless of the money?

“This is a shame for boxing and for Mexico. If I were him, I would accept the fight with Benavidez and show the world that he is the best.”

Canelo held nothing back as he fired back at the former world heavyweight champion in a stinging attack.

British boxing legend Froch has taken exception to his sober claim, accusing him of disrespecting ‘Iron’ Mike while bringing up the 33-year-old’s failed drug test.

He told LuckyBlock.com: “It sounds disrespectful from Canelo, doesn’t it?

“Mike Tyson’s a retired fighter and an icon of the sport. I don’t believe he ever failed a drug test. Canelo has done that. He failed a drug test due to contaminated meat. It was Mexican beef apparently.

“So, whatever you want to say about Mike Tyson… I just think that if you live in a glass house, don’t throw stones.”

Froch then shared his own thoughts on Canelo not fighting Benavidez next.

“Canelo Alvarez looks like he’s priced himself out of the Benavidez fight,” he added. “I don’t think he’d swerve anyone, Canelo. He’s a very confident man but having said that I can’t see him rematching Bivol at any stage soon.”

Benavidez (28-0) last fought when he stopped Demetrius Andrade last November to defend his interim title.

He’ll have to wait before getting a crack at Canelo, who faces Munguia next month.
