The Super Bowl Was Unjust To Jennifer Lopez And Shakira

Performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show is one of the highest honors that any artist can get. Some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Beyoncé, Madonna, Rihanna, and Eminem, have been given the opportunity. The average time that these orders get to perform is 12 minutes. Here we can do whatever they want, bringing in other artists to come and go as they please and perform all of their hits.

“We have six f— minutes,” Lopez said, “We have 30 seconds of a song, and if we take a minute, that’s it, we’ve got five left. But, there’s got to be certain songs that we sing, though. We have to have our singing moments. It’s not going to be a dance f— revue. We have to sing our message.”
In 2020, Jennifer Lopez was given the same opportunity. However, this time was a lot different, as the actress revealed in her Netflix documentary, Halftime, via LA Times. She was made to perform with Shakira, with both of them getting only six minutes collectively. Lopez talked about how having such little time for two very successful artists to perform all of the greatest hits is deeply insulting.

Jennifer Lopez Blames The Super Bowl

Jennifer Lopez does not blame anyone but the Super Bowl, feeling upset about how she and Shakira were done dirty. Her manager, Benny Medina, also spoke on the subject, specifically talking about how it showed a sort of bias on their part. He stated that it was insulting for two Latina artists who are at the heights of their fame, to perform in a lesser time frame than one single person would have been given.
“This is the worst idea in the world to have two people do the Super Bowl.” said Lopez,

Medina also added that, “Typically, you have one headliner at a Super Bowl. That headliner constructs a show, and, should they choose to have other guests, that’s their choice. It was an insult to say you needed two Latinas to do the job that one artist historically has done.”

The singer talked about how if they wanted to artists to perform the entire show instead of one, they should have been given a lot more time. She even added it was one of the worst ideas in the world and that the entire situation was a serious mishap on the Super Bowl’s part.
