The former light-welterweight champion has offered to train Rooney for a bout against Jamie Vardy
Amir Khan has offered to train Wayne Rooney for a fight against a fellow Premier League title winner which would surely attract plenty of interest.
The 37-year-old retired fighter held light-welterweight world titles between 2009 and 2012, after bursting onto the scene after claiming a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
Khan officially retired from boxing in 2022 after 40 professional fights that resulted in 34 wins, 21 knockouts, and six losses.
Meanwhile, Manchester United and England legend Rooney is known to be a boxing fan, having taken up the sport as a child. He was even once memorably floored by friend Phil Bardsley, which inspired a knockout celebration after scoring against Tottenham in 2014.
Outside of football in recent years, Rooney’s wife Colleen has been in the headlines for her dispute with Rebekah Vardy in the infamous Wagatha Christie scandal.
Of course, Rooney was once England team-mates with Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, who continues to play for the Foxes in the Championship at the age of 37.
Both players are Premier League title winners too, after Rooney won the trophy five times with United, and Vardy did so in Leicester’s memorable triumph in 2016.
And it seems Khan would be keen to see both men take on one another in the ring, and he would be happy to train Rooney for that bout, who he would back in any bout between the duo.

Speaking to Gambling Zone, Khan said: “Jamie Vardy is the right fight for Wayne Rooney, that’s a very good even fight.
“They’ve got the spat their wives have had, what a fight that would make, it would sell well.
“They’re both around the same level as well. They’re both novices. I’d back Wayne though because Wayne’s more streetwise, he’s more solid.
“‘You don’t want to put him in the ring with someone that could hurt him, or outbox and make him look stupid, it should just be someone for a bit of fun as some like Wayne Rooney could get really hurt.
“He’s not really a boxer, so if he got in the deep end too quickly, it could knock his confidence and he could get hurt.
“I’d love to train and help Wayne Rooney, sportsmen have a lot of respect for one another, because they’ve been there and done it, so they’d listen to you more than a normal trainer.
“When you train with another athlete it’s going to push you and you’re going to train hard.”
We’re sure it’s a fight many would watch, if it came to fruition.
