MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE – APRIL 16: LeBron James #6 of the Los Angeles Lakers warms up before Game One of the Western Conference First Round Playoffs against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum on April 16, 2023 in Memphis, Tennessee.LeBron James is getting dragged on social media again, with the Twitter community calling him out for lying.

The Los Angeles Lakers star, a four-time NBA champion who became the league’s highest-ever scorer earlier this year,

doesn’t have much credibility out there as he’s been checked for random untruths over the years. There’s a whole video compilation of the 38-year-old telling lies and making absurd claims.

So what is it this time?

LeBron James scowling

Well, less than a month ago, LBJ claimed he was not paying to keep his blue checkmark on Twitter but, as of Thursday, his account is officially subscribed to Twitter Blue.

Wednesday was the last day Elon Musk allowed Twitter users to keep the mark for free. It now costs $8 a month.

No one asked LeBron whether he was going to pay for the privilege. He just came out and said it in this tweet…

Welp guess my blue ✔️ will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain’t paying the 5. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Yeah…

So social media has really gone in on the four-time MVP. You could see some of the reactions right below:

LeBron James said he wasn’t paying for a blue checkmark last month

but he still has his verified badge and his account is marked as subscribing to Twitter Blue 🤔 pic.twitter.com/JqgsNQKmEP

LeBron James is still verified on Twitter after legacy checkmarks were yanked.

He subscribed to Twitter Blue after VOWING not to pay one penny to keep his verification.

Times sure have changed!https://t.co/HjFA2Ll8xp

“Will you LeBron James pay for Twitter blue?” https://t.co/LC6x0W7JSj pic.twitter.com/uzKlL6iDET

Other big sports names such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Russell Wilson, and Aaron Judge have let their checkmarks expire. Darius Slay who, like LeBron, made it known that he was not paying, actually made a show of losing the verification badge

Bye blue check 😂😂 https://t.co/uqet80shVi

The likes of Tom Brady, J.J. Watt, Klay Thompson, Conor McGregor and, of course, LeBron, remain verified.

In the latter’s defense, though, he typically stays off social media during the playoffs so he was probably not the one who actually paid for the checkmark. There’s also a theory claiming King James was one of the celebrities kept on for free on purpose so fans could troll him.
