The 2024 All-Star schedule has been announced with the All-Star game to be held on February 18th. The voting for the All-Star team has been conducted and the results shocked a couple of people. One of them is the former NBA player Gilbert Arenas as he was perplexed to see that one of the greatest shooters in the NBA, Stephen Curry has not made it to the list. He even spoke about it on his podcast ‘Gil’s Arena’ and criticized the new voting process for the All-Star team.

The selection of NBA All-Star Game starters is based on a mix of fan voting, current player votes, and media panel input. So, 50% of the fans’ votes are counted with 25% votes from the current players and 25% votes from the medial panel. Looking at this new structure Arenas said, “You are preserving history by doing stupid sh*t like this. All-Star voting was from the fans and now you want to alter the present. Well, then you are messing up my history to preserve everybody else’s.”

He even gave an example of a legend and claimed that if we go by this new method even “Michael Jordan doesn’t have 14 All-Stars. He only has eleven”. This is because when Jordan hurt his foot, the fans voted for him nevertheless. Also, the 2001, 2002, and 2003 All-Star titles should be taken away from him because he wasn’t better than the guys at that time.

Due to his popularity, he got voted by the fans as an All-Star and that is exactly the point Arenas tried to make, “If we are going to take what the fans voted for and switch it, all the history that is calculated has to be recalculated.” However, with this new voting process, who are the players that made it to the 2024 All-Star game?

LeBron James makes history with his 2024 All-Star selection

With his historic 20th All-Star selection, LeBron James now has more NBA All-Star appearances than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The starting lineups, released last week, included Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James as captains of the East and West teams, respectively. Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, Tyrese Haliburton, and Damian Lillard head the East team, while Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lead the West.

The 73rd NBA All-Star Game will honor the basketball’s birthplace in Indiana and will resurrect the old Eastern-Western Conference rivalry. The conventional scoring system returns with four 12-minute quarters, having teams competing for their charitable organizations by winning each quarter.
