We all love the classic movie Friday and Chris Tucker’s role as Smokey but in a recent interview Ice Cube is giving the reason why Tucker turned down $12 million to be a part of the sequel.

“You’ll hear 1,000 different stories but we wanted to pay him $12 million to do that movie and he turned it down,” Ice Cube shared. “He said it was for religious reasons,” he continued. “He didn’t wanna cuss and he didn’t wanna smoke weed on camera.”

As we all know, Mike Epps ended up starring in Next Friday and took on the role as ‘Day Day’ but Ice Cube opened up about how that switch worked out for the better. “But I’m glad he didn’t do it ‘cause we wouldn’t have Mike,” he said. “Mike, to me, is funnier.”

After the success of ‘Smokey’ Chris also went on to create another legendary character which was his role in Rush Hour. Tucker previously spoke on how both roles helped him throughout his career.

“The movie took a life of its own and I love that people still want to see it,” Tucker responded when asked if he gets tired of being questioned about returning to the Friday franchise. “I love that they did two more after the one I did. If it’s possible, if it comes together right, I would try to do it. I’m a perfectionist, I’m sorry. If it ain’t gonna be great – I don’t believe in ‘some movies are good, some are not.’ Nah, I’m going all the way; I want it to be great.”
