Ice Cube Calls AI Music Demonic And Threatens To Sue Anyone Who Uses His Voice

#Socialites, if you were expecting any AI-generated music from or featuring Ice Cube, you’re SOL! The California rapper is NOT a fan of AI music as he calls it “demonic,” and threatens to sue anyone who uses his voice.

In recent months, AI (artificial intelligence) has taken over social media, the film and TV industry and even the music industry. There’s been a wave of new songs to hit the internet using AI-generated voices from some of your favorite singers and rappers.

Many celebrities have since spoken out about the use of AI in music, like singer JoJo, who said that she is not completely against the thought of AI music. She even suggested that we all “might as well embrace it!”

Meanwhile, music label UMG demanded that streaming services block all AI services available for use from recreating songs by its artists. Music legend Sting also spoke to BBC about utilizing AI in the music industry, and he argued that it has now become “a battle” for artists and other creatives to defend their work against the new technology.

Ice Cube Calls AI Music ‘Demonic’ And Threatens To Sue Anyone Who Uses His Voice

And joining the ban against AI music is rap legend Ice Cube. In a new interview with ‘Full Send‘ last week, Cube spoke out against AI-generated songs.

The show’s hosts asked the rapper what he likes and doesn’t like about the industry now. He said he likes the beats, but the artists are getting lost in autotune and AI. He added, “I think people don’t want a computerized rapper no more.”

Cube explained, “I don’t know any rappers by their voices anymore. I used to know all the rappers, hear the voice and know who that is. I think they need to figure out how to put the autotune down, and we need to hear what people sound like, and if there is good. Because I think AI is demonic. I think AI is going to get a backlash from people, real organic people. And so I think artists need to go back to using their real voice, and making sure people know this is authentic and not made from a computer.”

Later, the show’s hosts asked Cube what he thought about the AI-generated track “Heart On My Sleeve,” which featured AI voices mimicking the real voices of Toronto artists Drake and The Weeknd.

The song recently went viral and the hosts asked him about it and Cube said, “I think that’s terrible. He admitted that he hadn’t heard the song, adding, “I don’t want to hear an AI Drake song. Yeah. I don’t want to hear that bullsh*t. He should sue whoever made it.”

The hosts then joked and said that there’s an AI Ice Cube song coming for him, and Cube did not laugh one bit. Instead, he threatened to sue the sorry person who uses his voice. He said, “Yup, and I’m going to sue the motherf***er who makes it too. And the platform that plays it.”

While the hosts go on to laugh to battle the awkward silence from Cube, he jumps in and explains why he’s so serious. Cube said, “It’s like, somebody can’t take you and uhh… It’s like a sample. I mean, somebody can’t take your original voice and manipulate it without having to pay.”

Cube continued to explain, “It’s like sampling and if I steal somebody’s baseline — or sample, I ain’t gonna say steal, but if I don’t pay for it, that is stealing. So, I steal somebody’s baseline, then you come after me. No matter how much I manipulated it in the computer, and changed the notes or whatever, they recognize it, and it’s a sample, then you come after me. So, that’s what the artists should do.”

The hosts then asked Cube who are some his current favorite artists. He admitted that he doesn’t really have any, so the hosts continued to agree and reason that a lot of rap music now gets “stale pretty quick.”

Cube agreed and said, “Yeah. They don’t have a long shelf life. It’s all artificial. People are getting tired of that artificial, computerized sound, because of AI.”
