Johnny Depp appears on the latest cover of Rolling Stone for an in-depth look at his accumulation of legal woes and personal struggles.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star held nothing back during his multi-day interview with the magazine.
Here are the 10 most interesting things we learned about Mr. Depp from the raw profile:
Throughout his career, Depp has been in films that have together netted $3.6 billion. From that, it’s reported that Depp has received a $650 million profit.
However, almost all of it is gone. As a result, Depp is suing The Management Group, run by his longtime business manager, Joel Mandel.
Depp is claiming breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and negligence. The suit also claims that under The Management Group’s watch, Depp’s sister Christi was given $7 million and Depp’s assistant $750,000 without his knowledge. Depp also claims that he paid $5.6 million to the IRS in late fees.
The Management Group claims Depp has “compulsory-spending disorder.”
TMG denies all wrongdoing and is countersuing, alleging that Depp made an oral contract with the company that he breached.
The suit suggests that Depp has a “$2-million-a-month compulsory-spending disorder,” including witty remarks such as “wine is not an investment if you drink it as soon as you buy it.”

Depp is nocturnal.
The interviewer, Stephen Rodrick, spent several days at Depp’s estate in Los Angeles. Rodrick claims that for Depp, “the days begin after dark and run until first light,” adding that he interviewed an often “incoherent” Depp at 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning. At this time, Depp is described as looking “scared and haunted.”
Depp tried to pull out his own tooth while at dinner with Penelope Cruz and Stella McCartney.
Depp’s friend and fellow media mogul Penelope Cruz also shared some personal stories about Depp. Among them, an awkward dinner outing with herself, Depp and Stella McCartney while in London. At the dinner, Depp inexplicably tried to pull out his own tooth.
Tom Petty’s death hit Johnny Depp hard.
Depp and the late Tom Petty had been longtime friends, up until Petty’s death in October 2017. Depp got emotional when talking about his relationship with Petty, saying, “We’d call each other and ask, ‘Hey, you still smoking?’ Tom would go, ‘Yeah, I’m still smoking,’ and I’d feel better: ‘Well, if Tom is still smoking, I’m OK.’ I loved him.”
Depp claims his mother was abusive and moved his family 40 times.
Depp first grew up in Kentucky and then in Florida. He claims his family moved more than 40 times during his early eyes.
Depp remembers his mom “hurling things,” claiming there were “irrational beatings.” The atmosphere definitely had a lasting impact on Depp, as he reflects that “it was a ghost house — no one talked.” At her funeral in 2016, Depp recalls calling her “the meanest human being I have ever met in my life.”
Depp still regrets his controversial Donald Trump remarks.
Last June, Depp made an assassination joke about President Donald Trump, asking, “When was the last time an actor assassinated the president?” Depp reflects on the moment with a shrug, adding, “I was trying to connect it to Trump saying he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue, but it didn’t come out right.”
Depp is protective of his character Jack Sparrow.
Of all the characters Depp has played over his multi-decade career, Jack Sparrow is nearest and dearest to his heart.
Depp says that he is protective of the character and claims he battled with Disney screenwriters repeatedly over what type of character Sparrow would be.
Depp claims he asked Disney, “Why must you have these fucking heinous subplots?” He adds, “It’s convoluted. There is not a fucking soul that wants to see Captain Jack Sparrow sad.”
Depp’s friendship with Harvey Weinstein has ended.
The two show-business powerhouses used to be close, often seen in photographs together at premieres and various industry events.
Depp added that the two also hung out outside of industry events.
While Depp recalls Weinstein as “a bully,” he says he once tagged along as Weinstein was picking up his young daughter from school.
Depp says Weinstein really loved her, saying “The image that took my breath away was Harvey Weinstein, a goliath Shrek thing, bending down to put on his daughter’s raincoat.”
Depp’s business manager claims he spent $7,000 on a piece of furniture from the Keeping Up With the Kardashians set.
In the lawsuit filed by The Management Group, Depp is described as “a spoiled brat with no impulse control.”
Some of his expenses are detailed, including: $75 million for 14 residences, a $3 million price tag to shoot his pal Hunter S. Thompson’s ashes into the sky from a cannon, 45 luxury vehicles, $200,000 a month on private air travel and $7,000 to buy his daughter a couch from the set of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Depp admits to using an ear piece while acting.
According to the suit, Depp personally paid a sound engineer on set so that he could be fed lines through an earpiece. Depp does not deny that he used an ear piece, saying the sounds fed to him made him act with just his eyes.
