The 60-year-old actor and musician intends to bring the life of Amedeo Modigliani, known for his sensationalized works, to the forefront.
Talking to USA Today during a press release statement, Johnny Depp expressed his elation at getting the opportunity to helm Modi. He said,
“Embarking on this cinematic journey as the director of MODI has been an incredibly fulfilling and transformative experience,” Depp says.
“I would like to express my profound gratitude to the entire cast, crew, and producers for their unwavering commitment and creativity.”
Following this, the Alice in Wonderland star proceeded to laud his Donnie Brasco co-star Al Pacino for encouraging him to develop Modi. Depp stated,
“To Al, who requested that I make this film—how could I refuse Pacino? A sincere acknowledgment (sic) for generously contributing his talent and dedication to this project. MODI is a testament to the collaborative spirit of independent filmmaking, and I am excited to present this unique and compelling story to the world.”
The Scarface star chipped the idea to Depp, who turned it into reality, expected to start production soon.
The film shall present a star-studded cast including Al Pacino, Stephen Graham, Bruno Gouery, Sally Philips, Luisa Ranieri, and Ryan McParland.

Johnny Depp’s Modi revolves around the life of Modigliani, focusing on the life-changing events that vaulted him as a legendary artist.
According to Google Arts & Culture, the Italian painter has attained wide fame and regard for his nude artworks.
Sadly, his first and only ever exhibition was shut down by the police due to the exhibition’s nature, going down as a scandal.
Modigliani had moved to France, and enrolled in a group meant for broke and poor artists in Montmartre.
He also suffered from tuberculosis but instead of acknowledging it and undergoing appropriate treatment, he tried to disguise it with a loud and thrilling lifestyle, majorly with drugs and alcohol.
Details of Modi are yet to be revealed, with no information on its release date yet.
