Johnny Depp believed his teachers had failed him and thought he was going to end up in jail.

Johnny Depp may be one of the most renowned personalities–not only in Hollywood, but in the entire world–now, but that wasn’t always the case for him.

Especially during the time he was in high school when he was notorious for doing every bad thing that a youngster must not do.

But every situation has two perspectives, and so does Depp’s story. That’s why when the same teacher who once thought that the Pirates of the Caribbean star would become a drug addict asked for his autograph when he became famous, Johnny Depp was nothing short of furious.

Back when he was in high school, Johnny Depp’s parents were truly concerned about his schooling.

The reason? Depp was simply not interested in school and was ‘bored’ by it.

As shared by him in his biography, The Secret World of Johnny Depp: The Intimate Biography of Hollywood’s Best-Loved Rebel:

“I’d been in high school [for] three years, and I may have just walked in yesterday. I had like eight credits, and I was in my third year of high school, and I didn’t want to be there. I was bored out of my mind, and I hated it.”

Not only this, but the Edward Scissorhands actor also felt that his teachers had failed the young him.

That was why when, years later, one of his former teachers asked for his autograph, he was furious.

“I mean, what was I supposed to say? He’d failed me. I remember one time this teacher yelled at me so heavily in front of the entire class.

He didn’t have any time for me then, and now, all of a sudden, he wants my autograph? They all thought I was going to end up a drug addict, and in jail.”

However, at the same time, Johnny Depp also agreed that it wasn’t exactly his teacher’s fault for thinking that way about him, considering the antics he used to pull back then.

While Johnny Depp got furious at the situation, he also conceded that if talking about the young Depp, his teacher and everyone else who shared the same thoughts were right about him.

Admitting how he ‘wasn’t exactly an exemplary pupil’ during school, he mentioned in his book: “I hung around with bad crowds. We used to break and enter places. We’d break into the school and destroy a room or something. I used to steal things from stores.

Yet, even that wasn’t the worst of it all. Continuing, he revealed: “I started smoking at 12, lost my virginity at 13, and did every kind of drug there was by 14.

Pretty much any drug you can name, I’ve done it. I wouldn’t say I was bad or malicious, I was just curious. I certainly had my little experiences with drugs.

Eventually, you see where that’s headed and you get out.”

Thankfully, Johnny Depp got out of it, which ultimately led to him gifting the world with his extraordinary acting chops and performances at the cinema!
