With Pirates of the Caribbean 6’s status currently uncertain, it is down to a fan trailer to bring Johnny Depp back to the franchise.

The future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is uncertain, with talks of a female-led reboot and questions about Johnny Depp’s involvement.

A fan-made trailer featuring Johnny Depp and Jenna Ortega has surfaced, showcasing a swashbuckling adventure we may never see.

Despite Disney’s noncommittal stance, there is hope for Depp’s return as Captain Jack Sparrow, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer expressing interest and Depp’s own sentimental desire for a proper goodbye.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is currently drifting in uncertain waters, caught between the lackluster reception of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, talks of a female-led reboot and the ever-present question of where Johnny Depp fits into it all.

The aftermath of Depp’s highly publicized legal battle with Amber Heard has seen fans demand for him to be given one more run out as the morally-dubious Captain Jack Sparrow, but so far, that still doesn’t appear to be on the cards.

Well, other than in the world of fan trailers, of course – and one such trailer has just bobbed to the surface on YouTube, and it’s brought Jenna Ortega along for the ride.

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is reportedly in the scripting stages, as is a reboot of the franchise that may or may not end up starring Margot Robbie in the lead role.

However, with very little sign of either of those movies coming to fruition in the near future – if at all – one fan-made trailer from KH Studio has taken matters into its own hands and delivered an impressive look at the Depp and Ortega-led swashbuckling adventure that we will never see. Check out the epic fan trailer below.

Will Johnny Depp Ever Play Jack Sparrow Again?

The prospect of Johnny Depp’s return as the roguish Jack Sparrow has been a topic of intense speculation for some time now.

Disney severed ties with Depp amidst his legal troubles following an op-ed by Heard in The Washington Post in 2018, which alluded to allegations of abuse.

During the subsequent defamation trial, Depp expressed a firm stance against returning to the franchise, even humorously dismissing a hypothetical offer from Disney involving “$300 million and a million alpacas”.

However, Depp also conveyed a sentimental desire to give Captain Jack Sparrow a “proper goodbye,” hinting at a willingness to continue in the role if it meant concluding the character’s story on a higher note than his last outing.

Additionally, the actor has returned to appearing as the character in special videos for fans, so his love for the role is clear to see.

Despite this, Disney’s official stance remains noncommittal, with hints at honoring the franchise’s legacy while exploring new stories.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has expressed interest in Depp’s return, adding a layer of hope for fans longing for one last adventure with their favorite pirate.

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 appears to be leaning towards a reboot with a younger cast, and that once again puts a bit of a dampener on Depp’s possible involvement.

But this is Hollywood, where everything is possible, and with other Pirates veterans such as Orlando Bloom and Brenton Thwaites expressing interest in reprising their roles, it is hard to completely rule out any eventuality.
