Snoop Dogg’s notorious love for consuming weed could be about to go up in smoke, as the rapper claimed to fans on November 16 that he is quitting smoking.

Fans have demanded to know if the rapper, 52, is OK and said: ‘Snoop without smoke is like Earth without water’

Others were unconvinced by the admission, with some wondering if it was just a publicity stunt ahead of a new business venture with edibles.

And some of his fans praised him for taking on a healthier lifestyle.

Snoop had announced on social media: ‘After much consideration with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke.’

Pure shock: Many fans poked fun at the Drop It Like Its Hot singer’s vow to quit smoking marijuana, calling it a publicity stunt, but some praised the rapper for his decision

Snoop, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr added before signing off the message, ‘Please respect my privacy at this time.’

While DailyMail.com reached out to representatives for Snoop for further comment, fans have been quick to chime in.

Fans are in total shock – the rapper’s notoriously public love for marijuana even led to numerous business ventures, including edibles, and a site devoted to marijuana related news.

It was once alleged that Snoop Dogg hired someone to roll him 75-150 joints a day, although he later disputed this.

One fan joked: ‘This is probably just gonna be some viral campaign where he launches his own line of vapes or edibles or something’.

While another remarked: ‘Damn, the world is really really coming to an end’.

Another asked: Are you OK. Snoop?’

More users took the time to laugh. One account quipped: ‘Snoop without smoke is like earth without water’, while another was more concerned about the loss of ‘his personal blunt roller’s job’.

And one humorously stated: ‘As a representative for Snoop Dogg, I can confirm he was high while sending this tweet’.

But the star also received a myriad of support from his followers – one account said: ‘Health above anything else. Snoop’s setting a great example to everyone. Respect’.

Similarly, a different user said: ‘Even icons like Snoop Dogg show us that it’s never too late to embrace change for personal growth. Let his decision to give up smoking inspire us to evaluate and improve our own habits for better health and well-being’.

Big business: The veteran rapper has an open appreciation for the drug, which has extended to numerous business ventures, among them edibles and a digital media business

His pledge to quit the drug doesn’t come as a huge shock considering he previously told MailOnline that he moderated his weed consumption after becoming a grandfather.

Snoop said his personal use was scrutinised after eldest child Cordé became a father to son Zion in 2015.

He said: ‘Being a grandfather has changed me in multiple ways. The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with, because I want to see my grandkids grow old.

‘The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking?

‘Am I doing extra-curricular or am I just doing what I’m supposed to be doing?’

The father-of-four is a parent to Cordé, 28, Cordell, 26, and Cori, 23, from his 25-year marriage to Shante Broadus, and son Julian, 25 from a former relationship with Laurie Holmond.
