Johnny Depp, his daughter and the crew literally plundered a treasure cave on the sets of ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’
The Pirates of the Caribbean series has doled out huge profits over the years. The franchise, starring Johnny Depp in the titular role, is worth a mind-boggling $4.5 billion, having carved out a space for itself in the hearts of an entire generation (who doesn’t love Jack Sparrow, right?).
And it seems like the stars themselves were handsomely rewarded for their endeavor. After all, how many stars can claim that they got to loot a treasure cave to go with their payment?
The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl marked the beginning of something big
Johnny Depp would become synonymous with the name of Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Back in 2003, when the first entrant in the franchise, The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl hit the theatres, no one could have known how big it would turn out to be, including none other than Johnny Depp himself.
Starring an ensemble of Keira Knightley, and Orlando Bloom alongside the What’s Eating Gilbert Grape star, the 2003 flick generated a lot of buzz amongst the fans, going on to lay the foundation of one of the most successful franchises in history.
The treasure cave attracted many people’s gaze
There were a lot of things to write home about the film, including Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom’s chemistry and Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Jack Sparrow.
Not to mention the iconic world it introduced us to. The Curse of the Black Pearl was the first time we were treated to the world of pirates at such a huge scale. Including the treasure cave set.
Who didn’t have a childhood dream of finding a treasure cave? The cast and crew on the sets of the movie were lucky enough to have the chance to fulfill their dream. It is no surprise that they took the chance to unearth their own treasure.
Johnny Depp and Lily-Rose Depp did not shy away from getting their hands dirty
Johnny Depp and Lily-Rose Depp were some of the guilty ‘pirates’
As soon as the treasure cave had served its purpose, it was ransacked by the cast and crew, with none other than Captain Jack Sparrow leading the charge.
Years down the lane, he candidly revealed that he, along with partner-in-crime, Lily-Rose Depp, walked away with a lot of treasure.
Other members also played their part, ensuring that the set was ransacked and deprived of all its props before production was wrapped.
The situation was so dire that Director Gore Verbinski confirmed that even the cursed coins weren’t spared. That is indeed befitting for a movie about pirates.
