Disney has got a strong backup in case Margot Robbie drops out from the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’.

Disney has revealed that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is in development. Since its last entry, the new film has been on a long hiatus. But it’s almost confirmed that it is happening.

The extension of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was announced in 2018. But due to controversies involving Johnny Depp the project was put on hold. In total, there are five POTC movies, all featuring the 60-year-old in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow.

This summer, producer Jerry Bruckheimer spilled some beans that Disney’s cooking up a new Pirates script. And guess what? It’s without Johnny Depp. Rumors say that Margot Robbie might be steering the lead role.

Margot Robbie confirmed on her Vanity Fair cover story that Disney stopped moving forward with the Pirates of the Caribbean 6 script that had been written for her.

But, in an interview with Variety, the producer of the film has finally spoken out on the matter. He said:

“I think that that script will come forward at a certain point. We developed two different stories for ‘Pirates’ and the other one’s going forward first, so that’s what we’re working on, to try to get that one made.”

Now, some fans might be thinking: Did Depp’s script get lost in a sea of pirate adventures? Sadly, the OG Captain was left off both script maps.

Bruckheimer told The Sunday Times back in May of 2023, “We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two ‘Pirates’ scripts — one with her, one without. [Will Johnny Depp be back?] Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided.”

So, with Bruckheimer’s latest comments, it’s clear that Disney is moving forward with the second script right now. This is the one that doesn’t have the Barbie star in it.

Will Johnny Depp Return to Pirates of the Caribbean 6?

Fans of the pirate adventure franchise are curious about the return of Johnny Depp to reprise his role of Jack Sparrow.

Even though there are rumors of him appearing in the sixth installment, it’s not true. The Hollywood star is not on board for a new script, and nor has Disney confirmed it.

The Tourist actor previously said to Daily Mail that he has “no intention of working with Disney ever again.”

It was reportedly due to his treatment during the Amber Heard controversy.

He was firm about not reprising Jack Sparrow, even if the studio made a deal of $20 million for a sixth film.

But despite all that, Depp has expressed openness to reprising the role of and working with Disney again.

But only time will tell what’s there for the upcoming installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.
