Billie Eilish said that she thought her queer identity was ‘obvious’ during Variety’s Hitmakers event, which took place on Saturday.

The 20-year-old performer recently spoke about her attraction to women in an interview with the media outlet that was released this past November.

The songwriter, who opened up about working on an original song for Barbie expressed her incredulity about not having been asked about her sexuality in the past.

Eilish told the media outlet: ‘I kind of thought, wasn’t it obvious? I didn’t realize people didn’t know.’

The Bad Guy songwriter stated that she was surprised about the widespread reaction to her earlier comments about ‘coming out.’

She stated: ‘I just don’t really believe in it. I’m just like, why can’t we just exist? I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I just didn’t talk about it.’

When asked about how she felt regarding the opinions of other women, she stated: ‘I’m still scared of them, but I think they’re pretty!’

During her older interview with Variety, Eilish spoke about having a longstanding issue where she was not able to connect with other women.

‘I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well. I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real,’ she said.

The What Was I Made For singer elaborated on her earlier statement and expressed: ‘I have deep connections with women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life. I’m physically attracted to them.

However, she added: I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.’

Eilish has been romantically connected to several individuals over the years, including rapper Brandon Adams, who performs under the name 7:AMP.

The pair’s relationship was covered in the documentary Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, which was released on Apple TV+ in February of 2021.

The performer also spoke about the end of her romance with the rapper during the documentary, in which she revealed that she ‘just wasn’t happy’ during their time together.

She stated via People: ‘I didn’t want the same things he wanted and I don’t think that’s fair for him. I don’t think you should be in a relationship super excited about things that the other person couldn’t care less about.’

Eilish went on to begin a relationship with Jesse Rutherford, best known for his work as the singer of The Neighbourhood.

The pair, who were separated by an 11-year age difference, began seeing each other in October of last year, and they split up in May.
