Kristen Stewart Reflects on Why She and Ex Robert Pattinson Stayed So Private During Their Relationship

It’s been over six years since Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson officially broke up and now, the 29-year-old is offering a glimpse into her past relationship with the British actor, 33.

The two dated after filming Twilight in 2008, and for the most part, they kept details of their relationship private. “When me and Rob were together, we did not have an example to go by. So much was taken from us that, in trying to control one aspect, we were just like, ‘No, we will never talk about it. Never. Because it’s ours,’” Kristen told Harper’s Bazaar UK for their October issue.

The pair broke up in July 2012 after photos surfaced of Kristen and director Rupert Sanders kissing. That prompted the Snow White and the Huntsman star to publicly apologize to Rob for the affair. “I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected,” she said in a statement at the time. “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most — Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”

In October of the same year, the two got back together. However, by May 2013, they split up once and for all. Now, Kristen is more open about her relationships, as well as her sexuality. In 2017, she confessed she’s bisexual. “You’re not confused if you’re bisexual. It’s not confusing at all. For me, it’s quite the opposite,” she said in an interview with The Guardian at the time.

In her interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, the brunette beauty also admitted that people in the industry have basically advised her to not be herself. “I have fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favor, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie.’ I don’t want to work with people like that,” Stewart declares. Fortunately, she’s all about doing what makes her happy now. You go, girl!
