According to a release, the local Boston hospitals take New Year’s babies very seriously.

The Public Affairs offices at Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Tufts Medical Center and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center stay in close contact as the clock strikes midnight to “determine which Boston hospital earns the honor of welcoming the first baby in 2024.”

Meanwhile, several other cities in the United States welcomed New Year’s babies, including a set of twins born in North Carolina.

Globally, the first South Korean baby of the New Year was a boy born to parents Lee Ju-hong and Im A-yeon, who struggled with infertility for over a decade, per The Korea Herald.
“[Our baby’s birth] is even more special because we’ve been married since June 2016, and had him through in vitro fertilization,” Im said, per the publication.
Im added, “We sincerely wish the best for all the couples with fertility issues across the country.”
