Angela Bassett dazzles in a gold gown on Governors Awards red carpet and celebrates being honored by planting a KISS on Regina King

Angela Bassett commanded attention on the Governors Awards red carpet on Tuesday in a gold Dolce & Gabbana gown.

The 65-year-old powerhouse — who was announced as the recipient of an honorary Oscar in June — walked the red carpet with husband Courtney B. Vance and their two children, 17-year-old fraternal twins Slater and Bronwyn Vance.

Bassett, who was first nominated for an Oscar in 1994 and then again in 2023, looked incredible as she bared her toned arms in her elaborately beaded dress.
She was presented the honor from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by fellow actress Regina King, 52.
And before stepping up to the microphone for her acceptance speech, Angela planted a big kiss on Regina’s mouth.

King happily reciprocated the show of affection as she kissed Bassett back

Dressed in a black pantsuit and button-up white shirt, King happily reciprocated the show of affection as she kissed Bassett back.
Her hair was styled in long box braids that were pulled up into a chic chignon set atop her head.
The two women exchanged giddy laughter and smiles as they embraced on the stage.
Then, Regina stepped aside and continued smiling in support and awe as the Black Panther star addressed the audience.
The mother-of-two looked spectacular with her hair arranged in a deep side part and tight, voluminous curls cut into a bob.
She accented her beautiful getup with stunning, tiered, stone drop earrings.
‘Across her decades-long career, Angela Bassett has continued to deliver transcendent performances that set new standards in acting,’ Academy representatives gushed in a press statement shared in June.
In a red carpet interview with Variety, the acclaimed entertainer said she plans to keep her statue in her kitchen.

‘I was actually looking around the house. I was like, “Ooh, in the living room,” but it’s like — I don’t go in there enough,’ she explained.
She continued with a laugh, ‘So, it’s going to be in the kitchen! It’ll start out there. I think it’ll start out there.’
When asked if she was concerned about it getting damaged in such a busy area of her home, Angela said coyly, ‘But it’s a precious metal. Nothing will happen to it.’
In the early 90s, she was Oscar nominated for her iconic portrayal of Tina Turner in the biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It?
Her next Oscar nod didn’t come until she starred in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The nomination saw her become the first actor to be nominated for a Marvel Studios superhero movie.

Bassett took home Golden Globe Awards for her performances in both What’s Love Got to Do With It and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but she fell short both times on Oscar Sunday.

The four honorary Oscar trophies were originally slated to be given to honorees Angela, Mel Brooks, Carol Littleton, and Michelle Satter on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike not ending until November 9, 2023, the event was rescheduled for January.
‘The Academy’s Board of Governors is thrilled to honor four trailblazers who have transformed the film industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans,’ said Academy President Janet Yang in a statement over the summer.
