England stars were left in 'disbelief' by one of Gareth Southgate's decisions throughout Euro 2024

Some England players couldn’t believe Gareth Southgate’s decision.

England stars were left in ‘disbelief’ by one of Gareth Southgate’s decisions at Euro 2024.

England suffered heartbreak as they succumbed to Spain, who ran out 2-1 winners in the final of Euro 2024.

Second-half substitute Mikel Oyarzabal poked home from close range to grab his national team’s winner after Cole Palmer had cancelled out Nico Williams’ opener.

After the match, England fans all made the same complaint as they made their feelings clear on social media.

Captain Harry Kane, who scored three goals at the tournament, broke his silence on Monday as he released an emotional statement.

He wanted to win Euro 2024 for Southgate, having fallen at the final hurdle at Euro 2020.

“It’s an opportunity missed,” he said immediately after his side’s defeat. “These finals aren’t easy to get to. You have to take it when it comes and we haven’t done it again.

“It’s extremely painful and it’ll hurt for a long time. Gareth [Southgate] will go away and take time to decide. We wanted to win it for him.”

Despite wanting to win the trophy for Southgate, Kane and his fellow international colleagues were left in ‘disbelief’ over the England boss’ decision to leave out Jack Grealish in his 26-man squad.

According to The Athletic, Grealish was equally stunned, having made an impact off the bench against Bosnia & Herzegovina ahead of Euro 2024.

Some even visited the Manchester City star in his bedroom to express their ‘disbelief’ at Southgate’s decision.

The report states that some of the England players felt Grealish should have been included because of his quality and big-game experience.

He had barely figured in the final weeks of the campaign at Man City last season, but Pep Guardiola started him in both legs against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The 28-year-old wished all his teammates good luck before he left the camp.

However, he was in no mood for pleasantries with Southgate as he was ‘shocked’ and ‘deeply upset’ over his exclusion from the Euros squad.
