In an unusual move that may actually make perfect sense for them, rappers Cardi B and Offset are reportedly getting back together while also getting divorced. Counterintuitive?

Yes. Chaotic? Sure. Basically in keeping with the timeline of their relationship so far? Pretty much!

In September, Cardi B confirmed reports that — after three years of marriage, one child, and the high-profile exchange of many lavish gifts — she had filed for divorce from Offset.

“Nothing crazy out of this world happened,” she explained of the split. “Sometimes people really do grow apart.”

Yes, fair, sure! Only it seems these two didn’t get too far, which you may already have gleaned from coverage of Cardi’s Las Vegas birthday over the weekend.

Offset celebrated by buying his estranged wife a Rolls-Royce, which does not seem like a very divorced thing to do. There were also extremely public displays of affection — make-outs and lap dances broadcast from Offset’s Instagram Stories, in fact.

Perhaps predictably, then, Cardi granted in a Tuesday Instagram Live session that she and Offset had indeed reunited but not for attention-getting purposes, if that’s what you were thinking.

“No, I’m just a crazy bitch,” she explained. Also, she added, “it’s hard not to talk to your best friend. It’s really hard not to talk to your best friend. And it’s really hard to have no dick.”

Although it’s far from the couple’s first breakup to be followed by a swift reconciliation, there’s reportedly one important caveat this time around.

“As of now, Cardi is still going through with the divorce,” a source told Us Weekly on Thursday. “[They] are still technically separated, but they still hook up occasionally and are trying to co-parent as best as they can.”

So to recap: Cardi B and Offset are allegedly divorcing but maybe also dating. I don’t know, whatever works!
