Perhaps the biggest guest of honor was the one and only Vice President of the United States. Yes, Joe Biden was on-hand as the foundation recognized his contributions to the cause.

For several years, the politician has worked alongside Mariska to help heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.

“I became convinced that if we pulled back the mask on domestic violence, we could change the culture and change lives,” the Vice President told the crowd when accepting his honor. “If we stay with it, we can change the culture.”

“My heart is full of joy and gratitude for @thejhf’s invaluable ally, my friend, and my hero in this work, @VP Biden, whom we honored at the 2016 #JoyfulRevolution Gala last night,” Mariska added on Instagram after the event. “#LookingToTheFuture with renewed #Hope, #Inspiration, #Gratitude, and #Aspiration. #ThankYou. I KNOW that #WeReGonnaFixIt.”

The Joyful Heart Foundation was founded in 2004 to help survivors heal and reclaim joy in their lives. Learn more about the cause by visiting the foundation’s website.
