Emma Watson is undoubtedly one of the most competent actresses in the Hollywood industry. While she has explored several genres, portraying the role of Hermione Granger was what made her rise to global prominence. This led her to gain devoted fandom with many agreeing that they can’t imagine anyone else but her for the iconic wizard.

However, this ultimate perfect casting was a result of her own efforts to make her character memorable. However, many might be surprised to know that not all sequences were a part of the original source including her favorite scenes.

The scene in question is also widely regarded as one of the fans’ favorite moments in the popular Harry Potter series. It is when Daniel Radcliffe’s titular character shares a dance with his friend, Hermione Granger, played by Emma Watson. Their dance sequence is featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 where Rupert Grint’s Ron Weasley left the duo. It was one of the scenes not included in J.K. Rowling’s novel of the same name.

In the Harry Potter reunion special, the Little Women actress addressed the sequence sharing

“The scene that I thought was going to be really awkward, and I wasn’t sure about at all, which was us doing our dance, now that’s one of my favorite scenes from the whole of the series.”
Given that Granger is a serious character, dancing in a survival situation would have probably ticked off the character. Since she wanted to make her character right, it certainly would have not felt right but she eventually went ahead with it.

“Because the level of familiarity that you and I had with each other at that point, I don’t think I could have done a scene like that with any other actor. So much said in the scene, it was unspoken, I loved that. And also, in the same way as characters, they got to have a moment of fun. You and I got to have a moment of fun, which we also needed at that point.”

Both the characters understood each other and went through similar pain when their mutual friend left them. Despite the awkwardness between the two characters, their on-screen chemistry ended up helping her in doing the sequence. It would be quite a surprise for her character to get offended especially when everyone including her agrees that she is quite similar to Ms. Granger.

Granger is one of the smartest characters in the franchise who helped the titular actor quite many times. However, portraying her was not always a great experience for the actress who addressed that she is quite similar yet different as compared to her role.

“I think I’m probably a bit more fun-loving than she is,” Watson shared. “She’s a bit more serious than I am. I think I’m a bit more rounded than she is. She’s very, like, focused on her academics, and she doesn’t really do anything else. But then, we have similarities, as well. I’m very loyal like she is, and I’m very hardworking like she is.”

Elsewhere, she told how she had a difficult time bringing an honest performance but accepted the character as her own. It eventually led her to evolve her nerdy character.

“I feel like earlier on I played a parody of myself. She was kind of this big personality and she’s developed into someone much more human.”

She indelibly left her impression on the iconic character and we know all too well that we can’t be able to imagine anyone else except her getting into Hermoine’s shoes.
