Philadelphia Eagles Nick Sirianni answered questions Tuesday morning about his job security after fans spent New Year’s Day calling for the head coach to be fired. The Eagles suffered their most embarrassing loss of the season in Week 17 when they blew a double-digit lead to lose to the Arizona Cardinals at home.

The Eagles have lost four of their previous five games. In a lousy December, they suffered blowouts against the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers. Speculation appeared Monday that Sirianni might have lost favor with the Eagles locker room after the Cardinals game.

Joe Decamara asked Sirianni if he felt concerned about potentially being fired after the season. According to 94WIP, Sirianni said he doesn’t worry about job security,

“No, I don’t think about those things,” Sirianni said on Tuesday’s 94WIP Morning Show. “I try to stay where we are right now.”

Sirianni was asked if he was “shocked” by the Eagles’ late-season collapse. Sirianni said he was more worried about trying to find ways to get out of their losing slump:

“Shocked? No. I don’t think that way,” Sirianni said. “I think about where we are and how we’re going to get out of this rut. I am trying to be exactly right where I am right now. How do we get this team and coaches playing and coaching to the best of our ability, myself included and how are we going to beat the New York Giants…I’m thinking right where we are right now.”

Would the Philadelphia Eagles fire Sirianni?

Reports about Sirianni’s job security in December seemed surprising after Week 17. The Eagles are headed to the playoffs this season. They’ve beaten good teams this season, including the Cowboys and Buffalo Bills.

Sirianni has a history of success in Philadelphia. They’ve made the postseason in all three years he’s been the head coach. Sirianni has a 34-15 record with the Eagles.

Sirianni was a few plays away from winning the Super Bowl last year. But Doug Pederson, who won a Super Bowl with Philadelphia, was fired a season after making the playoffs.

Sirianni’s accomplishments would be good enough for 99 percent of the league, but a bad month could get him canned in Philadelphia.
