Scarlett Johansson has been spotted essaying several lovemaking scenes in her projects. But there’s one scene that the Black Widow star doesn’t want to recall. It was from Michael Bay’s 2005 The Island, where the actress worked with Ewan McGregor. As stated by Johansson, she didn’t enjoy the kissing scene with the Obi-Wan Kenobi star.
Ewan McGregor failed to satisfy Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson’s romantic scene with Ewan McGregor
Over the years, the Natasha Romanoff star has often stated her love for unique genre movies. She also added how she always wanted to work with Michael Bay and Ewan McGregor. So it can be understood that no matter how the reception was, Scarlett Johansson enjoyed the opportunity of working with these big names.
But the fans were surprised when the Avengers: Endgame actress mocked McGregor, saying he was not a pro in the art of kissing, further saying he kissed like a teenager. “He kissed me like a 16-year-old schoolboy.” Even after that, Johansson added that it was a unique experience to shoot lovemaking scenes with the Star Wars: Episode I star.
“I get paid to make out with Ewan McGregor and roll around in bed all day. It’s a hard job but somebody has to do it.”
The events centering the lovemaking scenes in this movie didn’t cease here as Michael Bay had a very hard time convincing Scarlett Johansson to shoot a scene as per the PG-13 rules. The actress wanted to do it another way and make the scene spicier.
Scarlett Johansson was unhappy with a scripted intimate sequence
Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson in The Island (2005)
This is a famous story that came from Michael Bay’s side where the Transformers director claimed that Scarlett Johansson wanted to go naked in a scene of the movie. The Jojo Rabbit actress didn’t want to wear underwear for an intimate scene. According to Bay:
“I knock on the trailer of her door. ‘Scarlett?’ ‘Yes?’ ‘Can I come in?’ The door opens. I’m not wearing this bra! This cheap-a** bra! OK? I’m going naked.’”
Ultimately the director had to convince her as the movie was going to be rated PG-13- “Scarlett, you can’t go naked. The movie has to be PG-13.” Scarlett Johansson also tried to justify her point by claiming that there’re not many women who wear a bra to bed.
But even after so many stories, the movie couldn’t make a mark and delivered a lackluster performance both critically and commercially. It grossed a total of $162 million and was declared a box office bomb while the critics claimed it to be another over-the-top Michael Bay movie with nothing impressive.
The Island can be rented on Apple TV+.
