On the bright side When Colbert asked why, Washington humorously expressed: ‘I guess I saved it up for you!’
‘A mother is a son’s first true love. A son, especially that first son, is a mother’s last true love,’ he stated.
The performer then noted that he came to understand that assertion upon seeing his own son interact with his mother at a young age.
He remarked: ‘You know when I knew that? When I saw my son, John David Washington, handle my wife. I don’t care what she does, she’s going, “All right, baby.”‘
Washington also pointed out that Lennis was a constant presence in his life right up until her passing.

The program’s host then quoted Sigmund Freud and stated: ‘A son who believes himself to be his mother’s favorite has a life long confidence that nothing can shake.’

‘I don’t know if I was her favorite, I gave her the hardest time, I can tell you that,’ he said.
Washington concluded the sit-down by expressing that the audience members should ‘hug’ and show their ‘love’ to their parents.
