Charlize Theron has cemented herself as one of the most skilled action stars over the past 2 decades, even leading her own superhero flicks. Back in 2008, Charlize Theron found herself starring alongside Will Smith in the ambitious Hancock, which despite its charms, failed to succeed among critics.

The same year also witnessed MCU release their first movie, Iron Man, which went on to kickstart the long-running cinematic universe. And in recent years, the MCU would witness the entry of Charlize Theron in the mix, however, the actress admitted to being oblivious to Marvel’s success for a long time, revealing that she used to make fun of their fans.

Charlize Theron Admitted to Being Ignorant About MCU’s Impact

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Charlize Theron opened up about her initial doubts about Marvel projects. Considering she had no interest in the brand for a major period, the Hancock Star used to poke fun at Marvel fans, until her adopted family would make her watch them. And it wouldn’t be too long before the superhero flicks would absorb her full attention, as she went on to flower the movies with adoration.

“I was ignorant, I didn’t know those movies well enough until a family who I consider, like, my adopted family had me watch them. They’re crazy Marvel fans, and I always used to make fun of them. Like, ‘Oh my God, you guys are such fucking nerds.’” She said. “Then one spring break we rented a house and our kids were in a camp and they were like, ‘You need to fucking sit down and watch.’ So, we watched all the movies, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, they’re so fucking good.’”

Not only she was proven wrong, the actress would later go on to make her MCU debut as Clea in the mid-credit scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Charlize Theron’s Superhero Endeavors Aren’t Limited to Marvel

Although Charlize Theron is thrilled about her future endeavors in MCU and has no problem playing second fiddle, her journey in the superhero realm isn’t just limited to the confines of Marvel. With the actress set to return for the sequel to 2020’s The Last Old Guard, the American superhero film distributed by Netflix, the actress has also showcased interest in Hancock 2.

“You know, for a while we [talked about a sequel]. I think closer to when the movie came out, but not in recent years, no. We’ll be superheroes with our walkers, you know. And I’ll still go! I’ll still make that movie, I would do it in a heartbeat.” Theron said.

While the possibility of a sequel to the Will Smith-led Hancock is pretty unlikely, this will not hamper Theron’s presence in the realm of superhero and action in the upcoming times.
