While Margot Robbie and Will Smith have starred together in two films – Focus (2015) and Suicide Squad (2016) – the duo was praised for their exceptional chemistry in the former film. Their chemistry was so believable and effortless that rumors about their off-screen affair were flying around in the industry.

However, due to the two actors having a huge age gap, neither Margot Robbie nor Will Smith thought their chemistry would be so magical. Their doubts were put to rest the moment they began working together and realized that they did not need to fake their bond for the film as they got along just fine naturally.

In an interview with Red Carpet News TV, Will Smith and Margot  Robbie talked about their film Focus and discussed the chemistry they shared on-screen. Robbie stated that neither of the two imagined that they would fit perfectly like two pieces of a puzzle for the film and how easy it was to just get along.

“We’ve said it a couple of times. It was something neither of us was really expecting but for some reason when we walked into the room we just really got along and that kind of continued throughout the shoot and made everything exciting and fun. It’s not really something you can manufacture, though, it wasn’t forced or planned, I suppose. It just existed already which was handy.”

Adding to Robbie’s comments, Smith went on to say that Robbie did not expect she would get the role simply because of the fact that the two of them were poles apart from each other. Smith even addressed the big age gap between the two and joked about the “genetic differences” they had.
“When Margot came to read for the role, she didn’t think there was any chance that she was going to get it because of how different we are. I’m 46 and Margot was 23 when we did it so it seemed like it wouldn’t work in that way. And I’m from Philly, she’s from Australia, there was pretty obvious genetic differences [laughs].”

Of course, they no longer needed to worry about whether or not their chemistry would work onscreen when they started rehearsing together. The undeniable bond between them translated perfectly onto the screens!

Despite their effortless relationship, Smith and Robbie have only done 2 films together with the last one being in 2016. It’s about time we see the duo reunite and the Emancipation actor feels the same way. Talking to MTV in 2016 about Robbie’s then-upcoming Harley Quinn spin-off, Birds of Prey, Smith stated that he would love to be in the film as he truly wants to work with the actress again. Smith stated,

“I’d definitely love to be in it. I love Margot Robbie. I would do, like, anything she wants to do. That didn’t come out right.”
We are on the same page as him with this one. Someone needs to ping Robbie!

Focus is available to stream on Cinemax (via Hulu) and you can watch Suicide Squad on Max.
