Christina Milian is setting the record straight and letting fans know there’s no feud between her and Jennifer Lopez. In a recent interview with Page Six, the “Dip It Low” singer was asked to elaborate on the process of writing Lopez’s hit single “Play,” which she had penned at just 19 years old. In an effort to clear the air once and for all, Milian explained that she had written “Play” as well as “AM to PM” during songwriting sessions out in Sweden.

Speaking of the track, she said, ‘This just sounds too easy.’ It was just too easy to write at that moment. I wrote the song in, like, 15 minutes and it was a joke to me because I had just started to become a writer.” When music executive Tommy Mottolla heard “Play,” she says he wanted it for his artist Lopez, who would include it on her sophomore record. “And the next thing I know, she’s in New York, she’s recording the song and I came in to help rewrite some of the stuff.”

Milian also addressed those who have made it somewhat of a big deal that she sings background vocals on the record — after all, she did write it. Some fans have been quick to criticize Lopez for leaving Milian’s vocals on the final cut of the song and these speculations have persisted online, fueling rumors and creating unnecessary drama.

“It’s funny when people talk about this being kind of a thing about me singing on the song with Jennifer,” she said. “I mean, I have background singers on some of my songs. It’s no different than Michael Jackson having background singers on songs or Britney Spears.”

“I don’t need a feature credit. I’m on the credits for whatever nature, as a writer and for singing backgrounds. There is credit for that. I’m also just so happy that she did it because she’s an icon, she’s amazing.”
