In recent times, Nigerian artistes have been playing big on the global music scene with several hit songs. They have also performed at top events across the world. During the week, popular singer, Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, performed at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in France. Saturday Beats takes a look at his performance, and that of artistes who have strutted their stuff on big stages

Rema

Rema was the centre of attention when he took to the stage to perform his 2022 global hit single, ‘Calm Down’, at the prestigious football recognition event—Ballon d’Or ceremony held in France, on Monday, October 30, 2023. His performance made him the first Nigerian artiste to perform at the ceremony.

Tiwa Savage

Among her many performances internationally, Tiwa Savage performed at the coronation of the British monarch, King Charles III. She was the only Nigeria artiste invited to perform at the coronation concert.

Expressing delight at being a part of the show, Savage posted pictures of her outfit on her Instagram page and added the caption, “Too many to choose from. This is one I’ll never forget.”

Wizkid

Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, became the first African artiste to perform at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, United Kingdom, on July 29, 2023. His performance before 45,000 fans was applauded by fans and critics alike.

In June 2023, he also made history as the first African musician to headline the United Kingdom’s biggest music festival, Glastonbury.

Burna Boy

Grammy award-winning singer, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, was one of the three performers that performed at the halftime break at the NBA All-star games in 2023. Some of the songs he performed were ‘It’s Plenty’, ‘Last Last’, and ‘Anybody’.

He also performed at the UEFA Champions League Final Kick-Off Show at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Turkey on June 10, 2023.

Davido

A popular singer, David Adeleke, aka Davido, performed at the Professional Footballers’ Association Awards and 50th anniversary at the Lowry Theatre, Manchester, UK, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. This made him the first African artiste to grace that stage.

He also performed at the 23rd BET Awards on June 25, 2023, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

CKay

CKay thrilled over 40,000 fans with his hit songs at the closing ceremony of the 2023 African Nations Championship, which took place at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki, Algiers, Algeria. He performed his popular songs, ‘Love Nwantiti’ and ‘Emiliana’.
