Ten Hag has opened up on the talks that led to Sancho’s return.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has detailed his ‘clear-the-air’ talks with Jadon Sancho as the winger prepares to return to action.
Sancho has been named in United’s travelling squad to take on Rangers in a pre-season friendly, which is set to be his first appearance for the club since August.
At the beginning of September, the pair were involved in a public dispute over Sancho’s training performances, which led to his exclusion from the squad for the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.
The winger was exiled from the first team after reportedly failing to apologise to Ten Hag, and he spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
The expectation was that United would sell Sancho upon his return to Old Trafford, but he has now been reintegrated into the first team after positive talks with the Dutchman.
Although Ten Hag refused to open up on the meeting itself when pressed on the issue last week, he has now spoken about his private talks with Sancho ahead of the United winger’s return.
Ahead of the Rangers clash, he has told Dutch outlet AD: “We spoke well. Everyone can make a mistake. We draw a line and move on.
“This club needs good players and one thing is certain: Jadon is a very good player. I hope it will click and [he can] contribute to our success.”
The 24-year-old helped Dortmund to reach the Champions League final this season, and will be hoping to have another positive impact on United’s squad.
He has been joined in the Rangers squad by 18-year-old defender Leny Yoro, whom United paid £50 million to sign from Lille earlier this week.
With first-choice winger Alejandro Garnacho resting after winning the Copa America with Argentina, and Marcus Rashford recovering from a minor injury, Sancho will hope that strong performances in pre-season can enable him to stake a claim to start in the Community Shield fixture against Manchester City on August 10.
