A points deduction is looming over the club.
Everton will start the new season ‘with the threat of another points deduction’ as the Premier League have made a new claim over the club’s alleged profit and sustainability rules (PSR) breach.
The league claims Everton breached their PSR rules by an extra £6.5 million for the 2022/23 season, according to a report.
It comes on top of the £16 million overspend they have been docked points for previously.
The Toffees were hit with a two-point deduction by an independent commission for their 2022/23 overspend in April.
And, of course, they were deducted 10 points for breaches in the 2021/22 season.
On appeal, it was reduced to six points.
The league is alleging the breach in the 2022/23 campaign was higher as interest payments related to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock were not included.
An independent commission who imposed the second sanction rejected the league’s argument that £17 million in interest payments should be added to their losses.
However, it will look again at £6.5 million worth of payments, which it has said could represent another breach.
The report states that the commission have yet to inform Everton or the league when they reach a decision despite both camps pushing for a swift resolution.
The league claims the disputed £6.5 million should be added to the club’s spending as it was used for day-to-day running costs.
But Everton believe it should be removed as stadium costs do not count towards PSG calculations and are confident they will not face PSR charges for the 2023/24 term.
Sean Dyche’s side open their 2024/25 Premier League campaign at home to Brighton on August 17.
They finished in 15th place last season.
